Sitka, AK The students at Mt. Edgecumbe High School have access to some of the best salmon ever; provided they don't mind competing with the local bear population. Most of the kids are used to net fishing but teacher Patrick Clark, decided if was time to try rods and reels. Shakespeare donated the gear and the students took the challenge. I think their faces tell the rest of the story. |

| Washington state Todd Tanner and sons Thayne and Tyren stopped off to buy new rods and reels before heading to Alaska to fish. They never dreamed their first trip with their Shakespeare Yu-Gi-Oh combos would net them this 36", 16.5 lb. king salmon. Four-year-old Thayne fought the monster fish for more than 20 minutes. After landing the salmon Thayne's main concern was that Dad let him bring the fish home. Dad agreed and brought Mr. Fish to dinner. Take a Kid Fishing. |

| Caney, KS Neighbors in the area of Caney Jr./Sr. High School woke up in early February to see a 19 foot long bass flying over head. Mr. Bass made this special appearance to announce the second Annual Caney High Fishing Expo. |

 |
The expo and Mr. Bass was the brain child of John Brooks, CHS teacher and fishing club sponsor.
Members of the "Thank God It's Friday" student fishing club, along with other volunteers worked hard to make the one day event a complete success. Casting contest, minnow races, product testing and seminars kept visitors busy at the school from dawn to dusk. |

Orlando, FL The students at LockHart Middle School look forward to staying after class. In fact, they even like meeting with their teacher on the weekends. That's because the teacher, Phil Levine, has started a fishing club! The students are lining up to be a part of it. It doesn't hurt that Mr. Levine has a fully stock pond on his property. Like so many school programs, funding for the project is slim. But with the help of the parents and students the club is thriving. Congratulations to the recent Bass Tournament winners. |

Missouri When Gregg Pennington retired from his job as a school principal he hung up his coat and tie and replaced them with a rod and reel. Gregg has taken his love for fishing and educating children, blended the two and come up with a great new motivational Fishing Clinic Program. Gregg presents his "how to" clinics in the class room in conjunction with remedial classes. Students who successfully complete their assigned tasks are treated to casting lessons and fishing trinkets. Good job Gregg! |

They first full fledge tournament was a huge success and they are planning another. The club members were invited to ride in boats in several holiday parades. Brian has really generated an interested in fishing with these young people. Who knows? Maybe he's grooming a future Angler of the Year or a fisheries biologist. We can only hope. |
