Rated 1 out of 5 by AQuinny79 from Piece of junk disposable fishing pole! Bought this for our 3 year old today only to get it home & the wire was broken & there is NO way to open to get to the wire & or even replace it. Don't waste your money. We will be returning it tomorrow! Why would you sell a product that will eventually need new fishing wire & not be able to replace it. This is in fact a disposable fishing rod. Our little girl was highly upset over her broken fishing pole! If I could give this product ZERO stars I would. Product description needs to include "Can't replace fishing wire & if it breaks your out money & just have to throw it away"

Rated 1 out of 5 by Talitha from What :( I bought this product to my daughter the last Sunday (June 18th) at Academey Store in McAllen Tx, and today we opened it (Tuesday 20) and in the first throw all the fishing line went (maybe the line was too short), and I can not open the reel to put more line, the screw was sweeping when try to open it and can not open now, I could not take my princess to fish, tomorrow some fishing people help me, but I think they will not have more option than destroy the screw :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by TimV from Can not open the reel to restring!!!!! I purchased this for my daughter a week ago and haven’t even used it in the water yet. She was playing with the target fish and the line broke. We are unable to get the plastic screw out to restring the pole!! Very disappointed. I see that others have had similar experience with this rod. If the screw is defective then why is it still being sold!!!!!!! If I could give zero stars I would!!! My daughter is now crying! This is ridiculous!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by JEGGLETON from New rod works much better Left a 1-star review a few weeks ago complaining about the plastic screw that prevented use, so it's only fair that I update the review to document the positive experience and feedback from the company - and new rod with improved screw! The company responded right away and shipped me a replacement with improved features. It worked great and my 5 year old daughter enjoyed catching bluegills this weekend. Kids fishing rods are obviously not the flagship for any company, but Shakespeare followed up and resolved like it was their #1 priority, so thank you!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Daddytoe from Very disappointed. I blame myself for letting my daughter pick out the least expensive rod and reel - just because it was Barbie. Went on a family vacation and found ourselves miles away from a store. She had been so excited for me to teach her to fish. Opened it to find that the string was broke and there was NO WAY to replace it. I guess you get what you pay for - I just didn't realize that I was paying for a disposable rod and reel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by april321 from Improved Version, looks the same, works GREAT I had purchased the older version with the plastic pin holding the reel together, and it was very hard to get off. Some people have said they just drilled through and put their own in. I contacted Shakespeare about this and they sent me a new pole out immediately. At first glance it looks the same however the pin is now a screw and can easily be removed. They also gave us some freebies for the trouble.
