Rated 1 out of 5 by John1970 from Cute pole but don't buy it! Exact same problem as everyone else. Very cute pole for a little girl and fits her smaller hands great. Easy to cast and reel in. But as we were practicing with it the sting broke. Hadn't even used it 15 minutes. Looked online too see how to replace the string because the little plastic "screw" didn't want to come off. Very disappointing that something as basic as replacing the string cannot be done. Surely this could have been very easy to design in as ever other reel this can be done. Now my fathers day fishing trip with my daughter will be with a sad little girl. Guess she'll have to use an adult fishing pole. This was the Disney Moana pole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by 2fishornot2fish from Standing on the dock with 2 crying kids... Learning to fish was supposed to be the highlight of this vacation. The kids saved their money and went with us to the store to pick out their first "very own" fishing poles, Toy Story for one, and Moana for the other. The reel knob on one pops off, but the little guy shakes it off, and his sister promises to share. We get to the dock, pull the tab securing the line on the remaining pole, and there is no line attached. No problem, we'll just unscrew the line case and...discover that the screw is made of plastic and not meant to be unscrewed. Now we're standing on the dock with 2 crying kids and 2 broken fishing poles. So disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Ericlei123 from Bogus plastic reel retaining screw Cute for the first hour, until my daughter reeled the line inside the reel. No big deal normally, but ended up snapping the plastic retaining screw off to pop off the bell, and once I got it open, the ratchet pawl for the anti-reverse fell out. Still trying to get that back in. After being a lifelong customer that swears by your products, it's time to find a company that cares a little more about quality. My first Shakespeare combo lasted into my walleye and trout catching high school years. Now they don't last an hour. Do like the finger hole though, for what it's worth

Rated 1 out of 5 by Russell76252 from Very disapointed I grew up using Shakespeare poles and reals. So when my granddaughter saw the Moana fishing pole in the store my daughter told me about and I went to purchase this for her. I got home and read the package it stated it came with fishing line which was not the case there was no line that we could we could see. We went online to see how to open the reel and check for line and found out once the line breaks the pole is no longer usable as the reel is sealed and cannot be opened. Everyone knows that fishing line is going to break. Now I have to tell her she cannot have a Moana fishing pole. I would not recommend any of the Disney Character fishing poles as they are all sealed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jlkirst from unable to restring Same issue as everyone else. Once the line breaks, or otherwise gets completely reeled in, it is impossible to get the reel face off to restring. Normally, this reel face twists off and you can easily feed the line back through the reel face. On this set up, the reel face is held in place by a plastic screw that even once gotten to turn, cannot be removed to allow the reel face to be removed. My daughter loves the set up, and has spent a lot of time learning to cast and getting excited to go fishing for the first time. So glad we found out this was an issue before we hit the water. This is such a basic piece of fishing maintenance I'm at a loss as to why it is built this way.

Rated 1 out of 5 by unhappy father from string was broke from the plastic tab keeping it pulled outside the reel at the time of purchase and thought nothing of it thinking I could just feed it through again once I set it up like every other reel on the market but they have made this product to where you have to throw it away and buy another every time a line breaks I would recommend this product to no-one

Rated 1 out of 5 by jhoo17 from Agreed with everyone about the plastic screw. My friend got the Spider Man pole for his son and my daughter got the Moana pole on the way to the lake. After driving an hour and getting everybody excited to fish, we had to turn around and go home because neither of us could get the cover off to string the pole. His cover snapped and the screw on mine basically broke apart. Granted, I didn't have any surgical tools with me, but it should absolutely not be this difficult to perform a such a basic task on a fishing pole - regardless of the price point. I've got 2 other Shakespeare kids poles (Disney Princesses and Tinkerbell) for my older girls and they're still performing after a ton of abuse. This one is just disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Cherise767 from Cute but not practical I pretty much had the same issue as everyone else. As soon as I brought it home I accidentally snapped the line and reeled it in, mind you in front of my 3 y/o daughter that wanted to play with it. The molded plastic screw is so soft that no matter what you use to unscrew it, it just widens the slit to the point it's flushed with the rest of the plastic. We ended up exchanging it for another one just because my daughter loves Moana. She did like dropping the rubber fish it comes with on the ground and then reeling it in. Definitely not going to use it to actually fish just in case the line issue happens again.
