Rated 1 out of 5 by Tsanta1885 from Sad little girl Bought this today so my step dad could teach my 7 year old daughter how to fish. Got out in the boat and within 5 minutes, the line snapped. We realized very quickly that the screw on the side is absolutely useless. Had my husband try to fix it, who by the way, can fix pretty much anything, he's old school and fixes things so they don't get thrown in a landfill and he said it's a peice of junk. Never had a fishing rod where you cant replace the line!! Needless to say, I had a heartbroken little girl. Very disappointed!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by AmyW from Awful design You know, I didnt expect much for the price of this product. However, knowing that kids will probably mess up the line, the design should be that which parents can take it apart and fix it if needed. The plastic screw on the side makes that absolutely impossible. At a first attempt to open it, the screw completely stripped. It seems as though the company just wants you to be forced to purchase a new one, which is disappointing. Everything else about the product is fine, but inevitably you WILL have to undo that screw at some point and then the quality of the rest of the product doesn't matter

Rated 1 out of 5 by bdaymomof2 from Sad birthday girl :( Daughter ended up getting 2 of these poles for her 3rd birthday (Frozen & Princess). One was missing the black starter tag. Figured it was an easy fix to open the reel to get the line started. However, the fake screw makes you believe you can do this. Not being able to open a reel to untangle or pull more line out, is absurd. The 2nd pole, when releasing the line button and gently pulling on black tag, the line snapped with very little effort. Again, a useless pole. 2 out of 2 poles went straight to the garbage after she got to pretend and play with the rubber fish... Really disappointed on the horrible quality of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by madmama6196 from I bought this not even a hour ago and already the line is in the reel and I can not retrieve it due to the retainer "plug screw" stripping rather then opening. I'm now out on my family fishing trip with a sad 4 year old girl. Disappointed. Seems y'all should change the designs with so many bad reviews of this individual feature!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ryan the conquerer from Cannot get into reel I cannot get into the reel because the cheap plastic screw holding the cover in place is, well, cheap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Acacia1313 from Plastic screws/lost line fishing finished for us Bought this rod n reel set for my three girls. Of course we caught a few rocks. And a few trees. No problems. Until we lost the line in the reel. Then we encountered the plastic screw so that was impossible. So now we have a reel with no way to put the stripped screw back into it. We won't be buying a replacement. Having three girls aged 8-3 I thought this would be great to introduce them to fishing. Nope nope nope don't buy it until they replace screw with a metal one. You'll never be able to replace the line when you run out . Sad little girls

Rated 1 out of 5 by Cnshores from Heartbreaking My daughter broke the line and now it is stuck in the reel? You make a child’s product with fishing line that breaks, and expect it not to? Come on. I will never buy another one of your products if this is how you do business. I don’t know one adult who has never broken a line, even with spider wire. Break line, buy a new one, what a business model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JD R from What a joke! Like all the other reviews, the same thing just happened to my 5 year old daughter. This is her first fishing pole and was very excited to fish with it. Within in the first 5 minutes she broke the line and ended up reeling it into the reel. I wasnt expecting much for the price, but come on! I can’t believe that a company like Shakespeare would even produce something like this. I ended up with a crying five year old and now have to travel 60 minutes round trip to get a replacement. As my title says, what a joke!
