Rated 1 out of 5 by Tsanta1885 from Sad little girl Bought this today so my step dad could teach my 7 year old daughter how to fish. Got out in the boat and within 5 minutes, the line snapped. We realized very quickly that the screw on the side is absolutely useless. Had my husband try to fix it, who by the way, can fix pretty much anything, he's old school and fixes things so they don't get thrown in a landfill and he said it's a peice of junk. Never had a fishing rod where you cant replace the line!! Needless to say, I had a heartbroken little girl. Very disappointed!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Acacia1313 from Plastic screws/lost line fishing finished for us Bought this rod n reel set for my three girls. Of course we caught a few rocks. And a few trees. No problems. Until we lost the line in the reel. Then we encountered the plastic screw so that was impossible. So now we have a reel with no way to put the stripped screw back into it. We won't be buying a replacement. Having three girls aged 8-3 I thought this would be great to introduce them to fishing. Nope nope nope don't buy it until they replace screw with a metal one. You'll never be able to replace the line when you run out . Sad little girls

Rated 1 out of 5 by Fishdaddy1980 from Useless Can't even string the thing from the plastic screw that just turns but doesnt allow access inside the reel. I'm seeing tons of reviews like my poor experience. Very unhappy. Poor design and Shakespeare has done a poor job supporting this issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by GrandpaArt from A disappointment to young and old alike I bought this as a birthday present for my 6 year old granddaughter--her first fishing rod/reel. I went out expecting to buy a Zebco, because I know their cheap reels work. But then I saw the Shakespeare Princess set, and my granddaughter loves purple, so I was persuaded. She couldn't wait to try out her new rod and reel, so we went out the evening of her birthday to get her acquainted with casting using the practice plug that comes with the unit. After a few casts, the line broke and she reeled the line back up into the reel. No problem, I thought. I expected to be able to screw the cover off and re-thread the line through the cover. Then I ran into the now infamous screw, and could not get the cover off. She is sad, thinks she broke it, and I am wishing I had bought a Zebco instead of this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ryan the conquerer from Cannot get into reel I cannot get into the reel because the cheap plastic screw holding the cover in place is, well, cheap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mmcelhanon from Absolutely useless Bought this for my three year old grand daughter yesterday. First use she did hook a fish, line broke and she reeled it all the way into the reel. No way to get the cover off, there is a plastic screw that turns (and turns, and turns) but doesn't unscrew, thus no way to retrieve the line or restring with higher quality line. Frustrated, disappointed child, frustrated grandmother.....save your money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mnetro from Received replacement, thanks Purchased the rod and reel combination and it worked great until we had to change the line. The screw (plastic) won't unscrew so you can take the cover off to change the line. I gave a negative review and they responded by sending a new Rod and Reel as well as a small net. The new rod and reel still has a plastic screw, but it does come off at this point

Rated 2 out of 5 by Paul_deneen from Unable to string fishing line Bought this product and ran into the same issue that I am unable to string the line. If someone could provide a video on the website with how to break down the rod and how to operate it would be great. The packaging stated to visit the website for help but unable to find any tutorials. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
