Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Daughter loves it I bought this combo for my daughter while on vacation when she was 7. This was her first rod and reel and she wanted something pretty. I think the colors sold her on this model. I wasn't expecting too much out of it. Hoped we would get through the week without issue and she would catch a few sunfish. I was very impressed at how well it held up. After catching all the bluegills she could handle, I decided to see if she could step it up for a bass. I was pretty impressed with the drag on the reel. It was not jumpy and very even (even smooth) considering the cost. The push button allowed her to master casting pretty quickly. I switched out the line with a higher quality line which was thinner, stronger and had less memory and that made her casting even more effective. The rod was actually a little too long for her at first, and I thought she might have trouble casting, but kids figure things out quickly. It has pretty good feel to it, but it's not for bigger fish. I would net anything over 2 lbs instead of trying to lift it with the rod, just to be sure it doesn't break. Durability. She's dropped it more times than I can count: in water, on the dock, in dirt and mud and both the rod and reel are still going strong. She is now 11 and this is still the only rod she had ever had, nor does she have a desire for anything else. The fishing pictures throughout the years pictures with a fish on one end and a smiling girl on the other....definitely got my money's worth.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed first time out I bought this for my girlfriend. She casted the line and a few yards out it snagged somewhere along the way and abruptly stopped. The reel failed. It didn't cast smoothly. So I had to mail it back on my dime after less than a day of using it. The rod seems fine but the reel had issues. Given the price point, I wasn't expecting much. Hopefully the replacement or repair works better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great amd affordable combo I bought the combo at the local Wal-Mart a month or two back, bought one for my Fiance and one for my step daughter. Used it a few times myself. Last week I was using it and the release button broke. I love the combo so much, I'm looking for a replacement button. Wanted to know if someone could point me in the right direction?
