Rated 1 out of 5 by Grampa D from No Stars is what I would of given them Our grandson LOVES Spiderman.. so we buy him your Spiderman fishing pole. He couldnt wait to go fishing. While my grandson practices casting down the hallway he starts to cry. His fish didn't come back!! Okay great! Now we have a pole and no line!! We tried to open the reel to get the line out.. but no luck. So our grandson is so upset right now... he is screaming. He doesn't have a pole to fish with. I have looked everywhere for directions on how to fix the line..... nothing! And this little screw? What is it there for? It does nothing!! So.. what.. to do... now!! Very dissatisfied fisherman and jr fisherman

Rated 3 out of 5 by workaround from Screw removal - SOLVED Like so many of the reviews on here, I too was having the same issue removing the plastic screw. Here's my workaround... After 10 minutes of trying to undo the screw unsuccessfully, I looked on this website and noticed that was the number one complaint about this rod. So I decided to find a work around. So here's how I removed the screw. 1) Take a small piece of fishing line (10-12" should be enough). 2) Start with the middle of the line and put it under the head of the plastic screw. 3) Wrap it around the screw 3-4 times in a counter clockwise direction. 4) Hold both ends 3-4" from the head of the screw. Apply light upward pressure with one hand, while turning the screw counter clockwise with a flat head screw driver. This upward pressure should be enough to help the plastic screw get enough "bite" and it should turn out easily. After re-spooling the line, or fishing out the end you need, replace the cap and re-insert the screw. Mine went in just fine and snugged up pretty easily. Hope this helps you and your kiddos out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Caitlin P from good until you have to restring it My three year old was so happy until his line broke. When we tried to take out the plastic screw it was impossible and ruined :( Good for one use and now we can't get the top off

Rated 1 out of 5 by gigi7285 from Impossible to take plastic screw out I got 2 of these for my 2 boys for Easter. All they were concerned about was that the Easter bunny know that they wanted fishing poles, and they LOVE Spiderman, so I thought, PERFECT! Not the case at all...before we even got one of them out of the packaging the line broke off of it, my husband and I spent 30 minutes trying to get the plastic screw out to restring the pole to absolutely no avail. The screw is now in shambles. We tried the "work around" that another post suggested and that didn't work. We tried wedging a flat head under the nail and lift up while turning with another one, and that didn't work either. So we didn't even get 1 use out of one of them, and my 4 year old was heart broken that he couldn't play with his fishing pole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by HutchValley from "Throw away" product I bought this for my 3yr old grandson. He has loved practicing with it and we have enjoyed that. Well, yesterday the line broke right from inside the reel and of course this grandpa went to task on fixing it. As everyone has said that little plastic screw does what?!!! I've stripped it trying to get it into position to remove the lid with no luck! Why doesn't it just unscrew like a normal spincast reel? Why are there no comments on other peoples reviews from Shakespeare guiding consumers on the "how to"?!!! Because it's not intended to be repaired or respooled is my guess! Dissatisfied!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Sbowlby01 from So-so I got this for my 3 year old to teach the mechanics of casting and reeling. We used it for about 40 minutes and he was just getting the hang of reeling when he snagged the casting minnow and snapped it off the line. Well, he didn't lose much line but he did lose the minnow. He was disappointed, but I told him we can get another. Went back to the store, but I can't find a replacement for the casting minnow. You'd think Shakespeare would have anticipated that and offered replacement ones for sale.

Rated 1 out of 5 by gumbisue from extremely dissapointing I bought this fishing pole combo for my great grandson. After several practice casts into the lake the plug was snagged on a rock and the line broke. the line went into the reel normally no problem just unscrew and pull the reel apart. NOT ON THIS SHAKESPEARE PRODUCT.....looked on line to find out how to take it apart no luck. find these reviews i wish i had found these reviews before i wasted the money. i left a review on the Moana pole too. til i found the spider man pole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JP 1980 from Terrible Product I bought this two days ago for my son. While practicing casting, the line got caught and broke. While trying to unscrew the reel, the worthless and pointless plastic screw tore up. Now I have an upset 4 year old and a useless product. You should really rethink this screw. I see that multiple people are having the same problem.
