Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Stars is what I would of given them Our grandson LOVES Spiderman.. so we buy him your Spiderman fishing pole. He couldnt wait to go fishing. While my grandson practices casting down the hallway he starts to cry. His fish didn't come back!! Okay great! Now we have a pole and no line!! We tried to open the reel to get the line out.. but no luck. So our grandson is so upset right now... he is screaming. He doesn't have a pole to fish with. I have looked everywhere for directions on how to fix the line..... nothing! And this little screw? What is it there for? It does nothing!! So.. what.. to do... now!! Very dissatisfied fisherman and jr fisherman

Rated 1 out of 5 by from good until you have to restring it My three year old was so happy until his line broke. When we tried to take out the plastic screw it was impossible and ruined :( Good for one use and now we can't get the top off

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Screw removal - SOLVED Like so many of the reviews on here, I too was having the same issue removing the plastic screw. Here's my workaround... After 10 minutes of trying to undo the screw unsuccessfully, I looked on this website and noticed that was the number one complaint about this rod. So I decided to find a work around. So here's how I removed the screw. 1) Take a small piece of fishing line (10-12" should be enough). 2) Start with the middle of the line and put it under the head of the plastic screw. 3) Wrap it around the screw 3-4 times in a counter clockwise direction. 4) Hold both ends 3-4" from the head of the screw. Apply light upward pressure with one hand, while turning the screw counter clockwise with a flat head screw driver. This upward pressure should be enough to help the plastic screw get enough "bite" and it should turn out easily. After re-spooling the line, or fishing out the end you need, replace the cap and re-insert the screw. Mine went in just fine and snugged up pretty easily. Hope this helps you and your kiddos out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from "Throw away" product I bought this for my 3yr old grandson. He has loved practicing with it and we have enjoyed that. Well, yesterday the line broke right from inside the reel and of course this grandpa went to task on fixing it. As everyone has said that little plastic screw does what?!!! I've stripped it trying to get it into position to remove the lid with no luck! Why doesn't it just unscrew like a normal spincast reel? Why are there no comments on other peoples reviews from Shakespeare guiding consumers on the "how to"?!!! Because it's not intended to be repaired or respooled is my guess! Dissatisfied!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product I bought this two days ago for my son. While practicing casting, the line got caught and broke. While trying to unscrew the reel, the worthless and pointless plastic screw tore up. Now I have an upset 4 year old and a useless product. You should really rethink this screw. I see that multiple people are having the same problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke my son's heart We had been looking forward to fishing for some time. I agreed to the Spiderman fishing gear. After we figured out how to cast, our first successful cast revealed that the line was not attatched to the reel. No line. Useless pole. Sobbing 5 year old.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from same problem as everyone else! I came on here looking for a way to put a new line on the rod and found all these reviews saying everyone has the same problem! shouldnt there be a link here to explain how to do it? that's assuming it's possible! was this meant to be a single use rod? more plastic garbage?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Days of enjoyment I bought this so my son could get a taste of fishing to see if he liked it enough to invest more money down the road. He loves casting and reeling! The plastic fish that came with it disappointing into the lake pretty quickly but it was easy enough to replace it with a bobber and hook. He even caught a bluegill! I think he'll be a lifelong fisher. I wish there were instructions about replacing the line but a quick Google search solved that.
