Rated 1 out of 5 by Furbearingmammal from Failed on a 12" largemouth bass I bought this rod 8/16/15 to compliment an Excursion reel I'd been using for a couple months. Well, tonight the tip snapped clean off -- as you can see in the picture -- at the first guide. The fish in question was a solid, but not exceptionally-large, largemouth. Both I and the guy I was fishing with tonight agreed it was ~12" in length. This pole is rated at up to 12lbs. There's no way a 12" bass weighs 12lbs, yet snap! No, I would not recommend this rod to a friend. A rod rated at 12lbs that fails on a 12" bass when 12lb test mono doesn't after 41 days? Plus a $10 processing fee to replace it when it cost $20 in the first place? Nope. First time I've been truly disappointed in a Shakespeare product. I'll move up to tougher rods in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Joe D from Broke first time Bought the Excursion EXC562M medium action 5'6" rod last fall and used it for the first time a few days ago. Snapped off clean about a foot from the tip just below the third ferrule by the very first fish I hooked with it, a small northern pike.

Rated 1 out of 5 by tommyjr from Broke 2 I have broken two 7' EXS702MD medium action rods while setting the hook worm fishing for large mouth. The rods feel great and are very sensitive for plastic worm fishing but, just can't trust them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lewog from Great budget rod. I first bought a quick replacement casting rod for my son to temporarily hold him over til I could replace the more expensive one of his I accidentally broke. turns out to be a better rod than I imagined. It's not a club, good back bone and sensitivety, and comfortable handles. Holds up to abuse getting loaded loosely back and forth from the truck to the boat and seeing some shore fishing at the river. I bought two more medium action spinning rods one 6' 6" and the other 7ft. and use them quite often although the 7 footer gives up some sensitivety. They are comparible to Bass Pro Shops GS series rods. A good value at around 20bucks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TOM S from GOOD BEGINNER ROD They have these rods in 7 ft. at Walmart for under $20. I had this rod for about 8 months and it was a great rod, very sensitive but firm tip. It did break on me, though.. It snapped in half on a 15 lb. catfish, luckily the line didn't snap. But I was using 20lb test braided line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by topdog62 from Do not buy I bought this rod a month ago and it split down the middle. If you check the warranty, it has a one year time frame and a $9.95 return fee. So the rod cost $19.00 so it is not worth my time to return. I guess you get what you pay for. The review would be lower but you have to put at least one star!!!!
