Rated 5 out of 5 by jollytex from !!!!ROD WITH BACKBONE!!!! This is my go to rod for Red Fish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder. Bought 3 on sale at WalMart several years ago for 10 bucks each!! I've used these rods bay fishing as well as in the surf and at the pass. These rod have been to heck and back with little to no care and maintenance. I'm glad that they are still available. Just got 3 more as the originals are about wore out. Lie, I broke 2 of them recently. All my fault. Not fighting fish. Probably will buy a few more for my X-Mas just in case heaven forbid they might be discontinued. Tight lines friends!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mate Randy from True workhorse rod at a value price. I picked this up on a whim. I was looking for a 1 piece medium casting rod for use on my boat. I love the classic look, the blue guide wrap on the white graphite with the cork handle is absolutely beautiful. It is a true medium action rod and has the perfect amount of flex and sensitivity for me. This will likely be my go-to rod this season for casting from my boat. This is a really good value for the money, and has features of a much more expensive rod. I can not comment on durability at this time, since this is a fairly new purchase, but at this price if it holds up to a season on the boat it will be well worth it. My only gripe and criticism is that the handle is a little short for the length of the rod. I wish the handle was about 4" longer below the reel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by stirfry89 from Two Years, no issues, Nice rod. I bought these at Wal-Mart on a whim. Broke FIVE ABU GARCIA VERITAS Worth $100 each so I figured I would just try four $20 rods from Wal-Mart. These are still kicking two years later after pounding them hard. I use 65lbs braid with a 5oz Alabama rig as well as multiple rods with 20lbs fluorocarbon with 1/2oz to 1oz jigs, spinnerbaits, 10XD crankbaits, etc. all on medium heavy. I would recommend a medium rod for finesse fishing, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by wstephens from Best value. I just bought my second rod and love it. It’ll throw everything from a square bill to a 5/8 Texas rig. And for a twenty dollar bill you don’t have to worry about being rough with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dwf201 from One of the Best rods I have ever owned!!! I'm about this Rod at Walmart about a month ago for a great price. And it paid off last weekend in a 3 day tournament by catching me a 6.41 pound largemouth bass.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Christian 520 from Sensitive yet strong (6,6 medium heavy casting)I've read so many reviews saying how easy these break but after horsing largemouth through muck and yanking common carp out of weeds I have to say for $20 it was worth it. I've often been a little too rough on this rod and possibly pushed its limits but it has never let me down. I was really afraid this rod would be brittle but it has definitely held its own. Could have slightly more backbone but other than that no complaints.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BMustang from Downgrade From Excursion Graphite I look for rods to match with my Bass Pro Carbonlite reels, and was really happy with the Shakespeare Excursion Graphite casting rod. Recently when I went to replace the SEG, i purchased a pair of the present model Excursion and was really disappointed to see that they now come equipped with aluminum,/metal inserts in the eyes, as opposed to ceramic eyes in the SEG model. I am also disappointed that the Excursion Graphite is no longer available. I fish a lot, often 8 10 hours a day, for three to seven weeks at a time, and I know that the aluminum/metal inserts will groove and not hold up. If you are a "weekend warrior" fisherman I guess you can get by with this product, BUT given any amount of use, you will end up replacing the eyes at a cost more expensive than the rod itself. The SEG was a good, inexpensive, reliable product. The SE is not.
