Product Reviews

Shakespeare Cedar Canyon Prem. Fly Rod is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I received the 4 piece rod two weeks ago. Put it together and flexed it to get a feel for the rod and the tip section of the rod broke. I was sent replacements on two different occasions but the replacements were the 3 piece rods. I have yet to receive the correct replacement and have yet to try out the rod !!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flimsy Day one with this rod went great. Spent all day fish in the river, no issues. Day two brought nothing but disappointment. Attempted to do a VERY SHORT bow and arrow cast, first thing, and CRUNCH. The tip of the rod broke just above the third segment. So disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for the money! Background: I'm an older guy whose first rod in the early 60s was a hand me down 9050 Granger and my second rod in the late 60s was an 8' fiberglass rod. Over the years my rods got longer and longer. Now I fish primarily 10 footers, but I was looking for a shorter rod without spending $$$.$$ upfront. Review: This review is for the 8 foot 3/4 weight Cedar Canyon Premier rod. I looked at Shakespeare because they are inexpensive start point and are owned by Pure Fishing. I figured surely there has to be some consistency across the Pure Fishing brands, I was not disappointed. The rod is kinda heavy 3.3 oz for an 8 footer, but with the reel mounted and the line out it balances perfectly in hand. Not to mention the single foot guides, a very nice touch! The action is faster and requires a quicker casting stroke to load the rod. My accuracy was good and consistent at the 20-30 foot distances I fished it at. Photos: For example, this nice 12" Brown was surface feeding in the shallows, 30' out and across current. I hooked it (and many others) with this 8' 3/4 weight rod, using a reel loaded with DT #4 line, a 9' 4x leader, with 18" of 6x tippet with a #18 BWO tied on the end. Try and time the rises, cast one foot ahead two seconds before the next rise, enjoy the take, set, retrieve and release. Good stuff and a great little rod. Wish: Make this 3/4 weight in 8' 6" or 9' please.
